La Vergne is a city in Rutherford County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 18,687 at the 2000 census. La Vergne lies within the Nashville-Davidson-Murfreesboro, TN Metropolitan Statistical Area. La Vergne has traditionally been a working-class industrial town, especially since the establishment of the "Interchange City" industrial agglomeration on the west side of the city. However, in more recent years, the exponential growth of the Nashville area has given La Vergne a more upper-middle class, suburban feel.
The City of La Vergne, Tennessee is one of the fastest growing communities in the state as well as the country. The City -- which shares a city limit with Nashville and Smyrna -- claims nearly 29,000 people. In addition, the city has the largest industrial park in the state and can boast one of the largest subdivisions in the state. With its strategic geographical location near major interstates and local airports, La Vergne offers a small-town sense of community with all the conveniences of a large city.
Many domestic and international businesses are located in La Vergne. Part of the reason for the growth is the close location of the city to major interstates. Interstate I-24 runs through our city limits and Interstates I-65 and I-40 are within 15 miles. In addition, the availability of major city resources in Nashville and nearby Murfreesboro have aided in the growth.
The northernmost city in Rutherford County, La Vergne is proud to be the home to international companies such as Bridgestone, Ingram Books, Ingram Entertainment, Waldenbooks, and more. But, in recent years, the industrial boom in the city has multiplied numerous times, adding such well-respected companies as Nokian Tires, United Stationers, Quality Industries, Thompson Machinery and Square D.
The numerous employment opportunities, combined with a low city property tax, access to Percy Priest Lake and close location, only seven miles from Nashville International Airport and two miles from the Smyrna Airport, are just some of the advantages of living in La Vergne. The north side of La Vergne borders Percy Priest lake with two great marina access points to the lake, Hurricane Creek and Four Corners Marina.
New and previously owned housing are available in the city which offers all the conveniences of grocery and convenience stores, restaurants and other shopping outlets. In addition, four elementary and one high school provide quality education for students of all ages.
In La Vergne there are seven park areas with three of the seven complete with various recreational facilities. Veteran’s Memorial Park sits on 55 acres and features a two baseball/softball quad-plexes with concession area, a football/soccer field, a Skate park, an in-line hockey rink, a playground area, tennis, volleyball and basketball courts, walking trails and two pavilions.
Bicentennial Park, which sits beside La Vergne City Hall, features a baseball and a softball field, the Bicentennial Trail greenway path, green space and a pavilion. Mankin Park, a neighborhood park located at 124A Mankin Street, just off Jefferson Pike, features playground equipment, picnic areas and a walking trail in a heavily wooded area.
In addition, a number of local colleges are located within 20 miles of La Vergne, including MTSU, Vanderbilt, Motlow State and David Lipscomb. All of this combined makes La Vergne one of the best cities in the U.S. in which to live.
