Brentwood is a city in Williamson County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 23,445 as of the U.S. Census Bureau's 2000 census, and the bureau estimates its population as of July 1, 2005, to be 32,426 (see the Excel table released by the census bureau in 2006). Brentwood is known as an affluent suburb south of Nashville. GeographyBrentwood is located at (35.998194, -86.792619). Parks/RecreationBrentwood Civitan ParkLocated within near Concord Park, the Brentwood Civitan Park features six baseball fields and a concessions and restrooms building. Concord ParkConcord Park is a 40 acre park at Concord Road and Knox Valley Drive. It is home to the Brentwood Library and near Lipscomb Elementary School. Concord Park features paved walking and biking trails. Crockett ParkConcord Park is Brentwood's largest park at more than 170 acres. It features seven lighted tennis courts, restroom/concessions buildings, eight lighted ball fields, eleven multi-purpose fields, bikeway/jogging trails, th Eddy Arnold amphitheater, two historic homes, a community playground, and picnic shelters. Deerwood Arboretum and Nature AreaThe Deerwood Arboretum and Nature Area has a full observation deck, outdoor covered classrooms, and an amphitheater, the Arboretum. It contains man-made lakes, nature trails, and indigenous wildlife. The Little Harpeth River flows through it. Granny White ParkGranny White Park is a 32 acre park with several sporting facilities including four lighted tennis courts, softball/baseball fields, jogging/biking trails, a multi-purpose field, sand volleyball court, playground, and picnic pavilion, and is located near Brentwood Middle School. Maryland Way ParkMaryland Way Park is located in the Maryland Farms area and includes a paved walking and biking path with twenty exercise stations on 7 acres. Maryland Way park is next to the Maryland Farms YMCA. Primm ParkPrimm Park is a 31 acre park off of Moores Lane. Located on the site is Boiling Springs Academy, a historic schoolhouse built in 1832 and restored in 2003, and a pre-historic Native American mound. River ParkRiver Park is a 43 acre park adjacent to Crockett Park. It features a restroom facility, playground, outdoor basketball court, and borders the YMCA soccer fields. Adjacent to River Park is the Brentwood Family YMCA, now complete with a skate park. Tower ParkTower Park is a 47 acre park north of the WSM Tower off of Concord Road. It includes multi-purpose fields, jogging/biking trails, and natural open spaces. The new Williamson County Indoor Sports Complex is located here. At 76,000 square feet, it consists of a 50+ meter indoor pool with spectator seating, five indoor tennis courts, a fitness center, full-service locker rooms, childcare room and a multi-purpose room. DemographicsAs of the census of 2000, there were 23,445 people, 7,693 households, and 6,808 families residing in the city. The population density was 261.2/km˛ (676.7/mi˛). There were 7,889 housing units at an average density of 87.9/km˛ (227.7/mi˛). The racial makeup of the city was 94.63% White, 1.89% African American, 0.16% Native American, 2.50% Asian, 0.19% from other races, and 0.64% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.10% of the population. Brentwood is Tennessee's best educated city, proportionately, with 69.4% of adult residents (25 and older) holding an associate degree or higher, and 64.7% of adults possessing a baccalaureate degree or higher (2000 Census).There were 7,693 households out of which 48.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 82.2% were married couples living together, 4.9% had a female householder with no husband present, and 11.5% were non-families. 10.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 3.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 3.02 and the average family size was 3.24.In the city the population was spread out with 31.5% under the age of 18, 4.3% from 18 to 24, 23.6% from 25 to 44, 32.4% from 45 to 64, and 8.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 41 years. For every 100 females there were 97.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 93.2 males. The median home price in Brentwood is $523,477. The median household income in Brentwood is $119,304. Males had a median income of $97,962 versus $41,324 for females. The per capita income for the city was $50,550. About 1.5% of families and 2.0% of the population were below the poverty line, including 2.5% of those under age 18 and 4.5% of those age 65 or over. The home ownership rate (owner-occupied housing units to total units) is 95.4%.Money magazine listed Brentwood in their Best Places to Live list for 2005. Famous ResidentsBrentwood is the home of former NASCAR driver Casey Atwood and current Tennessee Titans quarterback Kerry Collins, not to mention Austin Huff. Brentwood is also home to several musicians, including country stars Trisha Yearwood, Kenny Chesney, Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, Dolly Parton, George Jones, Little Jimmy Dickens, Jack White, Alan Jackson, and Hip Hop duo DSX, and Trace Adkins. Brentwood is also the former home of Peter Frampton and present home of supermodel Niki Taylor. It is home to the lead singer of the legendary Christian rock band Petra, John Schlitt, and Christian comedian Brad Stine. Chris Moneymaker, who took home more than $2 million in the 2003 World Series of Poker in Las Vegas lives in Brentwood, too. Brentwood is also home to the International Headquarters of the Sigma Pi Fraternity and Alpha Omicron Pi Fraternity for Women. |
